Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead today encouraged drivers to make safety a focus on local roads and to help slow the road toll.

“With National Road Safety Week beginning today it’s a timely reminder that road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” Mr Bromhead said.

“One death is one too many, and it’s devastating to see that as of the beginning of the month, there have been 2 fatalities this year on Myall Lakes roads.

“Each year we lose more than 1,200 people on Australian roads. In NSW alone we are already at more than 130, which is up on this time last year.

“Make sure you plan ahead before getting behind the wheel, especially if you’re driving long distances.

“Ensure you get a good night’s sleep, drive to the conditions, stick to the speed limit and never ever risk driving if there’s a chance you could be affected by drugs or alcohol.”

The NSW Government is investing a record $1.9 billion over the next five years to improve road safety across the state and bring the road toll Towards Zero.
