Today I welcomed to our area, Deputy Premier and Minister Responsible for Disaster Recovery the Hon John Barilaro and State Disaster Recovery Coordinator Mick Willing to visit the owners of a property destroyed in the fires at Rainbow Flat late last year.
I encourage all who have been affected register for the clean-up services now. The Federal and NSW Governments will cover the clean-up costs to remove hazardous or damaged materials, including asbestos, concrete slabs and trees so there is no cost to owners.
“The NSW Government is here for all the people effected by the recent fires as they begin to recover from the recent tragic events. Including removing the costs of property clean-up which is one less thing people have to worry about” Mr Bromhead said.
“I encourage owners of destroyed properties to register for the clean-up with Service NSW on 13 77 88 as soon as possible.”
Deputy Premier and Minister responsible for Disaster Recovery John Barilaro said Laing O’Rourke Australia has been appointed as the managing contractor to speed up the clean-up process.
“Clean-up is an important step in the recovery of a community, and we are committed to cleaning up the 2,400 plus homes and thousands of other buildings that have been destroyed across the State quickly and safely, while ensuring the process is as easy as possible for those affected,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Initial building assessments have already been undertaken and now the clean-up resources are rolling out across the state.”
“After the affected home owner in the MidCoast Council Local Government Area register their property with Service NSW, they will receive a personalised service to meet their needs. Contractors will meet owners on the ground, discuss their damage and map out the scope of work for property owners to approve.”
Both insured and insured properties used for residential, small business or primary production purposes may be eligible under the scheme.
- State Disaster Recovery Coordinator Mick Willing said Laing O’Rourke will work with qualified local subcontractors and suppliers where possible to take advantage of local knowledge and expertise.
“Laing O’Rourke has the world-class construction expertise, the skills and equipment needed to do the job quickly,” Mr Willing said.
“This is a mammoth and challenging task and I ask residents and business owners to please be patient while this process is underway – we are coming to your town as soon as possible.”
“Laing O’Rourke understands the importance of keeping communities informed, engaging local tradespeople and suppliers, and will help local communities rebuild.”
To opt-in to the free service, bushfire-impacted property owners must register online at www.service.nsw.gov.au or call 13 77 88.
